I had read Dan Brown's "DaVinci Code" a few years ago, but nothing since then. Overall a good movie, and I'll leave it at that because I believe that the movie's negative points were places where the plot logic conflicted my with own good sense. Otherwise, it was well-acted, kept you guessing, had me on the edge of my seat a few times, and was well worth going to see.
This movie was not only entertaining, well-acted, well-scripted, and well-directed from beginning to end, but the all-new cast did a noteworthy job of portraying characters that we've known for years. To be honest, I wasn't altogether sure I'd like Zachary Quinto (Silar, from "Heroes") playing Spock, but he made a very, very good Spock. The movie made you laugh, grit your teeth, duck, and cheer. I'll not only see it again, I'll own it when it comes out on DVD. It was that good!
The special effects were actually pretty good. As with all campy horror movies, though, many of the scenes were predictable - the girl falling while running from the bad guy; one of the good guys taking the shotgun shells from his gun when the whole audience knew he shouldn't; etc etc. But despite this, the acting was better than average, and there were a few twists that you knew might be coming but which were done fairly well anyway. The end of the movie kept you guessing, which is always a good sign. Overall, probably a 3 1/2 star movie and worth going to see.
