Beautiful, sad, simple, and true. "Everybody's Fine" will tap into all of your emotions, not with the clever one liner, or manipulative direction you'd expect, but with the subtle performance of a fantastic cast who are in each moment, alive and true. Perfectly led by Robert De Niro on a widower's hero's journey to reconnect with his family, directed by Kirk Jones, the audience is indeed taken through one family's battles and death itself, to return triumphant in the end, never having overcome any monster more threatening than the surprise dinner guest, the specter of unrealized dreams, or the vacuum of mother's love placed just beyond reach. This touching movie reminds us that mortality isn't great, but even so, in life everybody's fine.
