The best thing of course is Puccini's magnificent music. The Met orchestra absolutely nailed it, and the singing was excellent, especially the Liu coloratura. My favorite performance of Turandot is the one at the Forbidden City in Beijing itself. Still, the clever opulence of the Met staging, lighting and costumes were nothing short of brilliant -when we could see them. The dark scenes in Acts I and III were too dark and dull for my taste.
My wife and I loved the various camera angles, the interviews, and the almost naughty feeling of peeking backstage between acts. We can't wait to see Tales of Hoffman.
