What a pleasant surprise. Really was not sure what to expect. I had heard very little about this movie and saw it on a lark late in the afternoon on a weekday in an uncrowded theater. Enjoyed all 93 minutes of it....a lot. Original. unexpected, well-storied, scripted and acted. Held my attention. I can relate to the isolation and self-protective behaviors that several of the primary characters exhibit. I felt empathy, humor, anger, frustration and a sense of accomplishment at having been immersed in this group of people and their story. Well worth your viewing investment. See it if you are over 21.
More horror shlock. Nothing new, original or scary. Not well-storied, not well-scripted, not well-acted, not well-paced.....just not good. At least I only wasted 98 minutes on this disaster. You are better off to TiVo those silly Saturday night movies on the SciFi channel and watch one of them instead. Rent an old classic like The Birds or the original Halloween. You will thank me later.
The movie nearly lives up to the expectations created from the trailers....which is rare for a genre comedy like this with 2 old Saturday Night Alums in the lead roles. If you have a good general idea about what to expect you will not be disappointed. It's funny and it exceeded by expectations. I laughed often, chuckled a bit and smiled a lot. Good funny-bone return on your movie money investment. See it.
Everything in this movie felt forced....from the acting to the dialogue to the script to the pacing to the ending.....on and on we could go. It was too long and liked the idea of itself too much. The movie just takes itself too seriously. Never felt real and I never got involved. I was bored most of the 108 minutes. It skates by with 2 stars (or 2 rhino horns as TheMovie Rhino is fond of saying) simply on the "look of the movie". It is a visually appealing movie with good photography and cinematic presence. Too bad the rest of the stew can't match the look.
Intriguing title that portends a movie that just might be original, interesting and humorous. For the most part we get the goods and the movie is an original exploration about obsession and love and all of the human foibles that can accompany duels between the sexes. A fun romp that could have been better if some of the coarse language had been removed and the the unnecessary nudity "circumcised". A bit long but I did laugh a lot. Endorphins were in full stampede by the movie's end.
This flick just escapes my personal "chick flick" force field which usually atomizes movies similar to this. The chemistry of the 2 main lead actors pulls it beyond that cutesy chick flick nether region I oft fear to tread. 90% of women will like this flick and probably about 30% of the male population will like or "tolerate it". In the end I think it is best a rental movie to be viewed snuggled up with your "honey" on a crisp cold night in the winter with some homemade popcorn and hot cocoa. Yep - that's the ticket.
This is the type of a movie, with it's intensity, poetic visual canvas, dark subject matter and no-holds-barred acting that will have viewers leave a theater on either extreme....hating it or loving it. Very few "middle-of-the-roaders" here. Obviously I love it!. Such a gem. Day-Lewis at his brooding best. I was absorbed by his character's persona. I was curious about him, frightened by him, respected him (at times), was repelled by him, cared for him and had sadness and empathy for him. Only Daniel Day-Lewis could have created all of the facets that shimmered through this complex character. A masterpiece of movie acting.
Someone made a movie about photos with weird images in them and we would have been better off if they hadn't - "shudder the thought". Best to skip this "under developed", poorly thought out, badly written, weakly acted movie. This is one of those little horror movies that is not horrifying....it's just horrible. A waste of 85 minutes. Skip it.
Owen Wilson plays Owen Wilson again.....but that's ok as I like him as Drillbit Taylor. See it but do so at the discount theater or as a rental selection. Cute, enjoyable family movie and it has a few hard outloud guffaws in it as well.
Had some very low expectations as Martin Lawrence has really worn thin for me. I enjoyed this movie even so. I laughed often and enjoyed many of the unlikely scenarios that kept "popping up". Worth a viewing in a movie house or as a rental.
