Take a trip on this road - Kate Winslet shines!

The movie world is blessed right now with many actresses that exhibit incredible depth and range but lately with The Reader and Revolutionary Road Kate Winslet has "kicked it up a notch". Winslet, DiCaprio & director Mendes give us something special as they shine a spotlight on the human condition at it's core: the battle between our most selfish natures and our God-given opportunities to get beyond ourselves to love more, give more and be something greater than super-intelligent animals with opposable thumbs. A well-told fable of true human conflict seen struggling with the serpent's whisperings. A mirror that reflects all of our desires for a "revolution". You will be thinking about it well after you have left the theater.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Wrestler Grabs You and Pins You to the Canvas!

This is an adult movie for mature movie-goers who have eclectic movie taste and are not overly sensitive to the violence, sex and rough hardscrabble life that comes with the down and dirty world of "past-their-prime" pro-wrestlers and strippers so powerfully portrayed by Rourke and Tomei. There are so many life lessons on display in this true-to-life fable that I almost felt like taking notes. You will be too transfixed for note-taking. These matchless performances are raw, naked and transcendent. Kudos to Rourke, Tomei and director Aronofsky. Stay for the titles and Springsteen's original title song at the end. This one will linger with you.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Movies this bad can make you wish you weren't born

30+ years ago The Excorcist did this theme a "zillion times better". Why we need a low impact, low quality Jewish version is beyond me? The really big question is how did they get Gary Oldman and Jane Alexander for this not-so-scary and unoriginal pretender to a horror movie? I heard a few shrieks brought on from well-known (and tired) horror movie gimmicks (spooky face in the mirror, bugs coming out of toilets and upside down heads on animals) coming from some of the late-teens in the theater but I heard them over giggling, "shaking your head no" responses from many like me. Need I say..."skip it"?
No, I do not recommend this movie.

"Mongolicious" - Loved this sweeping epic film!

Wow - what a great and wonderful surprise this movie is. Did not at all expect the quality of story-telling, acting and cinematography that was present throughout this masterpiece. Rumor has it that this is part one of a three part trilogy. Hope that this movie does well enough world-wide to allow that rumored plan to happen. This is a breathtakingly beautiful, entertaining and educational film that should be seen by all serious and eclectic regular movie-goers. It is so easy to appreciate the quality and scope of this film. Please do not miss it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie gets my vote....but it's a squeaker!

This movie falls into a category of movies that is becoming more commonplace. The first half is interesting and original. The premise is intriguing and the acting is generally very good. The problem is in the last 30 to 45 minutes which does not live up to the implied promise and the quality of the first half of the movie. It simply falls flat and loses it's own steam. In that first half I laughed and chuckled fairly often and that mirth ended some time early in the last half. Worth a rental and a viewing. You may have a different take on the last half of the movie - hope so. It's a close vote. We may need a recount.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Exciting High Wire Documentary Caper Movie!

An historical documentary that is perfectly put together so that we are all caught up in the intrigue of "the crime" as well as in awe of the eventual act of daredevilry. I was prepared for a dry and stilted movie and what I got was an exciting caper movie (think "Mission Impossible") with a unique and "impossible to ever duplicate" true climatic visual feat of breath-taking "nuclear" tight-rope walking! Simply amazing. For the life of me I cannot figure out why I never heard of this previously but thank you to director Marsh for creating this monument to the awe-inspiring event! See it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great acting and an interesting tale of the mentoring and rise of an American gangster. Denzel Washington plays the best bad guys. He is really good at this perhaps because for so long he played good or neutral characters. Crowe in this movie reminds me of his earlier energetic acting self. The only weaknesses: it's a bit long by maybe 30 minutes and the ending is too neat and wrapped up. I really wanted it to be a bit messier and have a darker ending. Probably just me. Worth your movie money investment. A near great movie. See it if you are over 18.

Best Russian mob movie of 2007!

What an intense, brooding and violent movie this is....but so well done. Viggo Mortensen turns in an unusual and outstanding performance in the lead role. I will never forget his character. This is a dark movie and in some ways reminded me more of violent movies made about Nazi cruelty in WWII than violent mob movies. If you have a stomach for extreme violence in this kind of setting then I am confident you will appreciate the story and performances in Eastern Promises. Not for the young or faint of heart. Mature over 21's that have a basic idea of what they will be seeing will be the best audience.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Ben Affleck should stick with directing and just do the occasional character acting roles. He does a great job in the director's chair with this flick. I fear that the movie will not do well enough at the box office to encourage Affleck's aggressive pursuit in directing movies. His greatest talents lie in scripting and directing. The acting, plot, editing, dialogue and tone of this movie are all top-notch. kept me on my toes the entire time and I was transfixed by the story. Bravo Ben Affleck. Brother Casey turns in a nice job in the lead acting role as well. Rent or buy this movie. Don't miss it if you are over 21.

Sean Penn Creates Whole "Milk"- No 2% Here!

I am squeamish when it comes to sexual nudity displayed on screen in a public theater. Homosexual nudity is an even greater hurdle for my general sensibilities to overcome and there is that in "Milk". That said - one can still be in awe of Sean Penn's performance as Harvey Milk. An amazing movie where Sean Penn not only channels the persona of Milk but also captures his physical appearance. Penn's performance does not an angel make re Milk. He paints a complex portrait of the very human and often conflicting emotions and actions that roil about in the constellation of Harvey Milk's openly gay private and political life. Worth a viewing for Sean Penn's mesmerizing performance alone.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
