Jackass 3D - What can I say?

Not sure what possessed me to see Jackass 3D? Have never seen any Jackass material in the past - ever. Pure curiosity I guess. The movie is a series of vignettes - each exploring something gross and/or painful - concerning a group of "men" that act out their fiendish, fetish fantasies on and with each other. Personally I was amazed that no one (I assume) was seriously hurt or even killed in the performance of the various "stunts". Just not for me. I did sit through the whole movie and I admit to laughing a few times and often groaning and gasping in sheer empathy ... thus the 2 stars instead of 1.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

P2 Uses It's Proven Formula Successfully Again!

This is much the same movie as the first one. It is a bit tighter and seemed to move more fluidly. The tension is there and the scares are there. The film-makers draw us in to their eerie little world. Our imaginations and suspicions do the rest. I enjoy this minimalist approach to haunted houses and horror and I'm a bit surprised that I liked this one as much, if not more, than the first Paranormal. It's Halloween season so go get your scare on with Paranormal 2.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Hereafter is Eastwood Asking "The Big Question"...

...and we can see his dilemma as he battles through his characters and their stories - faith and science, life and death, joy and pain, confidence and fear. Eastwood has not made a movie about easy answers and clarity of purpose .... it's just not his style and wont to do this. He, instead, takes us on a journey .... it is Eastwood's journey and we are his curious passengers. As a born again Christian I would have liked to have seen some additional emphasis on the unimaginable, amazing Grace of God .... but this is Eastwood's movie and his fight to deal with the hereafter. Heavy into New Ageism the movie is well-acted and well-made. It is thought-provoking and the Tsunami scene is breath-taking! While I am not wild about the new age theology I still enjoyed the movie. Worth seeing.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Stone - Not Rock Solid But There Are Some Nuggets

Always frustrating when a movie does not match the quality of the actors and their acting. "Stone" is this kind of a movie. De Niro, Norton, Jovovich and Conroy make this film worth seeing. Without them it would not be. That's the stone cold truth. If the last half of the story and film lived up to the potential we are teased with in the first half we would have a film noir classic - sadly it does not - and we are left with the acting only - which is pretty darn good - specially loved De Niro and Norton. The film simply runs out of gas midway in terms of creative storyline. An adult only movie that you have a 50/50 chance of thinking is worth your movie dollars and time investment .....
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Soul to Take is a Big misTake....

Almost felt sorry for Wes Craven while watching this sad little movie. Where has his panache gone? This entire film felt like it was from a first-time director/writer. It was flat, predictable, un-engaging, too long and there is really nothing to recommend it. The worst thing is it is never scary. The 2nd worst thing is that there is nothing here to make it worth filming or seeing in 3D! Why do 3D when there is no aspect to the movie that makes 3D an asset? It is rare that TheMovieRhino recommends not only not seeing a movie in a theater but skip renting it for a dollar later - here is that rarity! Do anything and see anything other than this flop.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

RED - Recommended Entertainment Don't miss it!

In this case RED means GO - go and see RED at a theater near you soon! It is an action-packed, suspense thriller jam-packed with "eye-winking" humor and some of the best "shoot-em-up" and explosion scenes seen on the silver screen in some time. Stir in an interesting tight plot and crisp, engaging dialogue (with just enough of it deliciously tongue in cheek) ... and then serve the entire feast with a generous helping of some of our absolute favorite seasoned actors - like Willis, Freeman, Malkovich, Mirren, Borgnine and Dreyfus ... and viola .... we have a near masterpiece for the genre. This film's 111 minutes virtually flew by and we can only hope that a RED part II is in the offing! What fun!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Never Let Me Go Will Stay With You....

The amoral elements at the heart of "Never Let Me Go" will likely stay with the viewer after the story details and characters have begun to fade. The movie is a jarring reminder of how we could be conditioned to accept atrocity as normal. If society slowly brings us to a point of acceptance we can "forget" what we are really condoning. Sort of like the frog that is placed in a pot of water that is gradually brought to a boil. The frog accepts his fate as it is boiled to death. The movie is a bit methodical and slow at times, which supports the story, but it is worthy of a viewing.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It's Kind of a Story Worth Seeing....

A movie about slowing down and taking the pressure off .... something we should all do more often. The director-writers allow their many quirky characters to tell the story in their own haphazard way and we get to watch the journey. Jam-packed with life lessons - "It's Kind of a Funny Story" will keep you involved - hoping for positive outcomes and small and large victories. Thank heaven the movie has triumphs we can celebrate communally in the end. Many actors expand their range in this one - especially Galifianakis. Kudos to all. Good therapy - see it!

Here's Betting You Will Love Secretariat....

It takes some genuine skill to make a movie about an historical figure and historical events that everyone is aware of and still create an aura of dramatic tension that has the movie watching public "bare-knuckling" it during the races .... as if we do not know the outcomes! Add to this well-paced movie lots of gorgeous Kentucky blue grass cinematography .... and scrumptious dialogue .... and pitch perfect acting from some of our favorite seasoned actors (Lane, Malkovich, Walsh and Cromwell to name a few) ... and some well-told back story about the greatest race horse of all time and his owner and - need I say it - you have the makings for a truly great historical sports movie about a champion! Secretariat is spectacular - see it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

AWAGAANS is a weird hoot of a film ....

A Woman, A Gun and a Noddle Shop is not for everybody (perhaps you can tell from the title). If you get a kick out of weird, foreign, sub-titled take-off movies based on classic film noir then there is a better than even chance you will enjoy this one. The characters are over the top, there is humor, there is violence .... and there is "the dance" between the evil deeds of men and action's consequences. I was fully engaged the entire time and found myself laughing at the absurdity of the drama unfolding in the little noodle shop.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
