The new Metropolitan Opera production of Wagner's last opera Parsifal is probably the finest opera performance EVER to be recorded for posterity. The cast is perfection itself: Jonas Kaufmann, the greatest tenor in the world today, is an ideal Parsifal; a naive boy in the first act, an amazing tortured soul in the second act, and a wise leader in the third act is absolutely amazing in the title role. His singing and acting are both perfection. Ditto for Rene Pape as Gurnemanz, Peter Mattei as Amfortas, Katarina Dalayman as Kundry, and Evgeny Nikitin as Klingsor. It doesn't get any better than this. Daniele Gatti conducted to perfection, except perhaps slightly too slow in Act I. Production was intense. A++++++++.
