What movie did you all see? The special effects were great, but how many 10 minute train wrecks have you seen? The child actors were all very good, but where was the story? We saw alien building blocks, but then they were not used or central to the story. The story? It was like they dropped the scripts of ET, Alien, Close Encounters, and maybe Transformers on the floor and mixed them up and filmed it. They could not decide what their movie was about.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I went to this movie with little expectation, but ended up being lured into this Raymond Chandler like story.
I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story line, but Mel played the man on the edge, but in a more mature way than in Lethal Weapon. A man driven by his need to know and his need to have justice. The periodic episodes with his daughter developed that relationship in a way that gave insight to his emotional state but also in his grieving process. Being a father of girls I was pulled into his grief and his relationship with his daughter. Some may have found the ending rather corny, but I found it satisfying.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Barber sublime and ......

Having just watched the Mets rebroadcast of Barber we were elated...and confused. Elated because of Florez and Di Donato and the Bartolo (who's name escapes me). I've never heard anyone sing the role as well as Florez, amazing. Di Donato was brilliant as was Bartolo. The Figaro faked his way through a lot of the aria and the Basilio was a superb voice, which was miscast in the comic role, but enjoyable. The tempi were at break neck speed. I liked the walkaround in front of the pit as an effort to bring some small house feel to a big house, but the effect of the 'doors' was small budget. Not what you expect in a Met production. Overall, Florez and DiDonato were worth the price of the tickets.
