Johan Botha was vocally excelent, but, as was true of all three principals, they represented the old type of opera acting--singing to the audience instead of the others on the stage, and showed no bodily or facial expressions. It was in sharp contrast to the principals of Tosca who you could see as well as hear their emotions.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Marcello & Karita are examplesof the new breed of opera performers who not only sing but show emotions and are physically believable for their roles.
