Not only does this movie sing to your inner monster, it will also bring a beloved book to life. Somehow this move takes a book about a boy who leaves reality when he is punished and creates a storyline that shows a character develop an idea about his own life in reality. We have Max, the main character, go from feeling put upon by his mother to suddenly being a King of a rag-tag band of monsters. Here Max learns that being King, like being an adult, is not a cut-and-dry way to be. In being King, Max comes to appreciate his mother and her obligations in life. This film had me laughing, crying, howling at the sun, and biting my partner!
