I took my little sister to this movie (she's 14). We had no idea it was based off of a book series until the opening credits. I have no idea how it compares to the books but as a movie we both thought it was pretty fun. I thought the casting was good, the plot was interesting and it kept my attention throughout. I thought all of the characters were well done; I really enjoyed the performances of all the actors. I thought the little guys in the brown robes looked a little too much like Golem from LOTR and would have enjoyed them more if I wasn't constantly reminded of the other movie. But, my little sister and I will definitely see the sequel and I'd recommend the movie to my friends.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
