I wanted to re-live the joy and excitement I had when I read the book as a child and hoped to share those feelings with my small daughters. Instead I came away very confused and a little disturbed. Firstly, it's pretty creepy to hear Tony Soprano as Max's friend, Carol. I was expecting him to wack Max and Paulie dump the body in New Jersey. Also, my daughers kept asking why everyone was sad and mean. Maurice Sendak was an executive producer, so I'm sure the vision met with his approval... so my question to you Maurice is, what went wrong? Were my childhood memories a lie? Yes, the special effects were excellent as were the directing and acting. Unfortunately I came away with the same confusion I had with Fellini films.
