Please, do yourself a favor and go see Where the Wild Things Are. It's beautiful in style and substance. This was my favorite book as a kid, and clearly still resonates with people. If you want to be challenged a bit to get vulnerable and see the world through a child's eyes, go see this spectacle. Yes it deals with real emotions and not pure escapism, and yeah it evokes tears, but from joy just as much as sadness. Also, consider that Maurice Sendak himself gave this film his blessing and adores the interpretation of his work. As a fan, a human, and artist, I found it deeply moving, inspiring, compelling, and just plain magnificent! But don't take my word for it... :)
