There may be a good reason this was never produced: it's a kind of tired Tennessee Williams indulging in his well-known clichés. The motivation for the characters is unclear and they are quite exaggerated. Meryl Streep is terrific. Bryce Dallas Howard overplays Fisher Willow. Ann-Margaret is surprising, and Mamie Gummer is excellent. If you like Tennessee Williams and his vision of the south, you may enjoy this movie despite its defects.
