The movie was slow in some parts with tender scenes especially when small kids were on the screen. Some lapses in continuity with two "gotcha" moments. Overall, a sweet movie with interwoven lives. Thanks for the tip on the Monsoon Wedding movie and soundtrack
Movie was so-so. No breakout performances. I think Rhys-Meyers acting was a bit stiff. Travolta provided some comedic relief in this shoot 'em up flick. Good to see Travolta on the big screen after his personal tragedy last year. My fave Travolta flick is Face Off. ”
Jaw dropping -- that's what. Several times throughout the movie my teen and I had in-your-seat-nudge matches because of the scientific and miraculous discoveries and renderings of space on the GINORMOUS 90-foot IMAX screen with booming sound.
Although the NASA astronauts were in very risky and precarious situations, they kept their sense of humor and awe. This movie confirmed for me & teen that there's no way that we can be the only forms of life in the universe -- it's too grand and beautifuly crafted.
The 3D was "muddled". I liked the story overall but found that Hades played by Ralph Finnes to be very uninteresting and detracted from the scenes that he was in. There was some funny moments in this movie that caught me off guard.
Wow!! Tyler has come a long ways from "Madea" movies. This flick hit home on several levels. Tyler haters can go pound sand. Each successive movie Tyler produces, writes, directs reveals more depth and emotion. He's an excellent storyteller of African American experience. Many strong and confident characters in this movie.
I was emotionally drained after this movie. The consensus - Tyler did an excellent job. The ending scene bothered some of us as we didn't think enough time (only 1 year) had passed for grieving before moving on. Next time I see it, it'll be with hubby.
Hopefully, the theatres will stay packed during its' run. Looking forward to seeing how Tyler takes on "For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Not Enuf".
This was one of the better animated movies I've seen. The visuals are breathtaking, 3D elements weren't overdone and added to the overall storytelling. The voice casting was spot on especially with Gerard Butler and Jay D.
Story dealt with accepting others' character flaws and readjusting expectations of self and others. I read that because this movie didn't beat the Monsters vs. Aliens opening box office figures, that'll it'll be more difficult for How To Train Your Dragon Part 2 to be made. I plan on seeing this movie again. Movie definitely earned its' Certified Fresh ratings.
Movie line that grabbed me: Astrid: "You better decide which side you're on, because we're going to inherit our parents' war!"
We were near the front of the lineup before going into the theatre. This week's all-day pass had better collectible quality - it was laminated. I don't think the theatre sold-out this year, even though people had the chance to buy single-movie tickets on day of event. I know there's 10 Best Pictures, but here are my top 5 picks for last year's Best Picture crop:
1) District 9; 2) Precious; 3) Hurt Locker; 4) Blind Side; and 5) Up;
AMC Theatres needs to allow its' FaceBook and MovieWatcher fans to be able to purchase their all-day passes for the same price as if they were go to the box office. There was a lot of criticism about AMC "no outside food/beverage" policy which may have turned people off from spending the day at the showcase.
There were some major snafus with AMC's "on again" and "off again" scheduling for the picture showcase at theatres because they didn't have enough movie prints to go around.
See you at next year's Best Picture Showcase on February 19 and 26, 2011.
It was a full house at the theatre. Our "Mad Hatter" t-shirts got a lot of attention and queries about the movie :) and the poster prints are beautifully done -- thanks, IMAX!!
I didn't have high expectations of this movie. I enjoyed the Cheshire Cat (Stephan Fry) character the most. I follow Fry's tweets so I have an insight on his witty and sarcastic humor. I like how Alice was portrayed as an individual thinker even in the topsy-turvy world of Wonderland - she was still calling the shots.
We had some stimulating conversations about parallels in "Alice" to other Burton films. Before the movie we saw trailers for Shrek, Tron (looks awesome), How To Train Your Dragon & Hubble. Hubble's "coming soon" date was incorrectly posted as August 2010.
The movie was so-so and didn't tap into the 80s enough. The movie started out funnier in the beginning and got slower towards the halfway point. No sequels here folks, move along.
This flick had many subplots and held my interest. The young female reporter kept the more seasonsed reporters in morality and integrity checks. This is one of the better films I've seen this year .
