We went actually wanting to see Rome in the background. Wasn't too much of that, unfortunately. There were a few chuckles in an otherwise stupid movie. If you're stuck there because someone else wanted to go, then take it for what it is, otherwise avoid it, even on DVD. It has nothing to do with age, just a badly made movie with a ridiculous story line.
Special effects were spectacular. The story, with its Biblical structure was OK, but the dialogue was so corny that it ruined the movie. You could see the ending mile away, and the coincidences were just too many to accept, even in the light of somewhat suspending reality within the theater walls. I still don't get what is so great about Nicholas Cage. Although he had a couple of good moments, most of them were that same dead faced, wide eyed look that he always has. I'd have to say that the movie was entertaining, but not great .
As expected the acting was superb. The movie was fast paced, not one slow moment. The best part is there being no clear and easy easy answers at the end. Everyone has a different impression of whether he did it or not. Excellent movie, a definite must see.
Well, I went in because my wife wanted to see it, and after all life is full of compromises isn't it? Well, how surprised was I to find that the movie was thoroughly enjoyable, and very fast paced for a movie as long as it was. Of course it was predicable from the start, but they kept it moving at a great pace with a lot of humor and clever dialogue, and a minimum of false sentimentality. Definitely worth seeing. By the way, see it in a digital projection movie house. The image is spectacular!
Although this movie was pretty funny, the entire plot and just about all of the funniest moments in the movie were all divulged in movie trailers and commercials. The problem is that if you go to the movies often you have to get there before the trailers and therefore you see far too much of the movie in advance. A movie like this, which only really had a few really funny moments, is ruined by the trailers and commercials. Still, it was and hour and a half of mindless fun.
Had I watched this on video I probably wouldn't have made it to the end. I just didn't care about any of the characters or their lives. Sarah J Parker is so bad, and Dennis Quaid equally uninteresting. Paige and Church were much better, but playing characters that were empty and uninteresting. Not worth the time spent.
Very predictable but fast moving and enjoyable to watch. Kevin Spacey is the low point, terrible acting, but the rest of the cast was very good. One of the better movies I've seen in this very lean season of decent movies.
Very old jokes, slapstick comedy- all done much better in older movies. Although I really like Renee Zelweger, I found her very stiff and very annoying in this movie. This was way beneath the caliber of movie she deserves. George Clooney was great, a real movie star, one of the only one these days. Hope he finds a much better vehicle to use his acting and directing skills at next time. No wonder they released this football movie in spring when no really good movie comes out.
