Wow! Carmen had it all. Elina Garanca was magnificnet. I cannot imagine a better Carmen. All the other principals were excellent as well. I was pleased to see Elizabeth Caballero as Frasquita. The obvious joy the conductor felt was an added bonus. Don't miss this production. Buy your tickets early as the first performance was sold out.
The technical problems mentioned in previous reviews were distracting but not overwhelming. I agree that the first act could have used better lighting for the big screen and the theater lighting before the performance and during intermissions was terrible. These things aside, Turandot was glorious. The staging and costuming were outstanding and the singing was up to the Met's high standards. The interviews between acts provided an informative view of the singers, especially Charles Anthony's brief recollections of a 50+ year career at the Met. It is very interesting to watch the tremendous amount of work that goes into the assembly of the sets.
