"Too Much of a Bad Thing" would have been a more appropriate title than "Precious", there's absolutely nothing Precious about this movie. I'm disappointed that Tyler Perry put his name on this one. If you're going to violate your audience at least let them know not to come fully dressed in their best, so they don't feel so dirty for making the choice to come in and support you. Where was the message of hope? Salvation? God doesn't just leave a person in the wilderness Tyler Perry, remember your own life?
I can laugh at a lot of things therefore the humorous parts were humorous, but the dark parts were DARK, TOO DARK...AND TOO MUCH OF IT!!!!! The story never really lets up until the ending. It was like being stuck on Disney World's "Space Mountain" ride with evil characters popping out at you for an hour and 35 minutes straight then for the remaining 1 min. somebody turned on the light! My 18 year old and my 12 year old saw the majority of the movie from behind their hands which were covering their faces most of the way...you just didn't know what was coming! this was supposed to be a CHRISTMAS carol....WHAT? Glad we left the 10 yr. old at home with dad!
Just when I thought I'd had enuf of Sandra Bullock already...she delivers! I'm certain things didn't happen in "the hood" as easily as it was depicted on screen, but laugh a little America...the racial comments were "real" albeit uncomfortable and probably more "toned down" than the actual, but, in all....what an impact these people had on this man's life. LOOK AT WHERE HE IS AS OPPOSED TO WHERE HE COULD HAVE BEEN. I'm grateful to know the funny side of the story.
Jamie Foxx is so over-rated...I'm not a fan of his acting. Kudos to Gerard...superb! Movie? Over the top! Unrealistic as expected! But what killed it for me was Jamie Foxx's character. Attorney? Detective? He was waaay too involved outside the courtroom. Could they not afford to pay another character to be the Super Detective while Clyde was the attorney? I agree with those who hated the ending! You DON'T KILL A MASTERMIND SO EASILY!They missed a great place for a twist. Clyde should have at least gotten injured or maybe his wife or daughter. He totally gets away with everything except he did finally realize you don't make deals with murderers! DUH!
2 1/2 stars is more accurate Best thing about the movie was the eye candy CHURCH! His acting was great too The 3 legged baby theme I suppose was just for laughs, but sooo not funny! I love quirky comedy and laughed a few times but wouldn't mind having my hour n 39 mins. back. Somebody compared this to my favorite movie, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Yeah, on the eye candy meter Otherwise NOT!!!!!!!! No offense but come on! What's with the three legged baby thing then a ditz in a well who rescues herself and others while MEN stand by for like "ever" and nobody throws down a life line? Not one rope in the whole town? She traveled cross country in a shorter time than a rescue team could come down the street? PLEEZ!
I thoroughly enjoyed the acting. Humor was good for the most part. The young girl did an awesome job of pulling emotion from the audience. Bathtub scene, hilarious! However, the title and storyline were a mismatch. The movie was unrealistic. Show me a "perfect," "eye candy" man willing to rescue a woman out of her mess and my guess is, you're watching a Tyler Perry Movie! OK for some laughs, but COME ON, REALLY?
