It's been some eight years since we've seen Mel on this side of the camera and it has been worth the wait. While some may find the rather "British" character and plot development somewhat slow, it works to create an intricate and plausible portrait of a desperate father. A pleasant surprise was Ray Winstone's portrayal of a black-ops cleaner. His performance alone would have made the film worth the price of the ticket.
Slow story line, bad writing, too many plot devices - and not good ones at that, and simply disappointing overall. The acting was not as disappointing, but the cast really didn't have much to work with. Kudos to Ben Affleck, who I pretty much despise, but did a great job in the film... and the moronic gigolo/pool boy; either incredibly brain dead or a genius actor.
