This was not the best Coen Brothers movie I've seen but it was still enjoyable. The cast is outstanding. From the previews, I expected a comedy but this was really a black comedy. Definitely not for everyone but my family and friends are generally oddballs and misfits, so I would recommend it to them, but they would do just a well to wait for it to come out on DVD.

Gary Oldman rules

While the Dark Knight was a terrific movie in it's genre, it was Gary Oldman's terrific portrayal of the relatively nondescript detective Jim Gordon that knocked me out. Following his career over the years has only made me more appreciative of the craft exhibited in this blockbuster. A seamless characterization and performance. Heath Ledger was also spectacular, but in a way that contrasted with what Oldman offered. The Joker had to explain his backstory, but Jim Gordon was complete in his persona.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
