I took my 8 and 10 year old daughters to see this, and was expecting it to be much more what we saw in the trailers; animals doing funny, cute, and scary things, all tied in with a widower healing his family. It does have those elements, but it is much more slow paced and has much more depth than the trailer would lead you to believe. This is not a film for small children (under 8) or adrenaline junkies. The underlying message is about having the courage to finish what you start and keep your commitments, as well as being able to start over when you lose someone you love. I was taken aback by the profanity (but out of 4 instances, only 1 was really inappropriate) and a few shots of very dark artwork drawn by the troubled teenage boy. But the film's characters are genuine and likeable. Overall a good film with a good message for older kids.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Disappointed

I really enjoy watching Jim Carrey perform, but I haven't been this bored in a children's film in a long time. Totally predictable and pedestrian plot line and hijinks are great for 10 and under.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I never really cared for this film before, but seeing it on the big screen in high def was really fun. My kids enjoyed it too.
I took my 6 and 8 year old kids to see this last night and we all LOVED it. It's a refreshing change of pace from American films that predictably shy away from the "real people" we parents are. This is a magical, fun, adorable movie with lots of heart.
