One word: Excellent! Best movie I've seen in a while other than the Wimpy Kid. Good movie for women & men alike, and for both a younger & older audience. There's not many movies I would recommend to both my friends and my parents, but this is definately one of them. Matthew McConughey was excellent. Marisa Tomei was wonderful as usual.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I loved it. My husband hated it & said it was painful. I read the book in high school. He did NOT read it. I loved the Romeo & Juliet feel of love so strong that it survives tragedy. My husband wished he had his sight at the end of the movie & said it was too sad. U decide. Maybe it's a chick flick & too deep for men to grasp or want to grasp.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I did like the movie overall & don't regret seeing it, but it was dark, disturbing, & wierd. Natalie Portman's performance was excellent, however.
P.S. I went to the Pokemon Black & White Tour w/ my son, and am now officially a Pokemon Trainer. Ha Ha.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Somewhat informative, but mostly MISLEADING

ONLY POSITIVE: The movie does raise awareness that there is a big problem with public education in USA. MANY NEGATIVES: 1. misleads the public by saying that charter schools are the only answer.
2. misleads the public to believe that ending teacher tenure and breaking the unions are the answers. This will not lead to raising test scores or giving the kids a better education, which is the goal. It will just lead to low morale and resentment on the teachers' part, which will only lower their performance. Since most teachers are not paid so well, they need to have some sort of security. Afterall, they are not teaching for the money. Most went into teaching to help the kids, which others often make it impossible for them to do.
3. fails to address that the principals are actually responsible or accountable for weeding out the few bad teachers and denying them tenure. Also, fails to explain that their is a rigourous process to getting tenure. It's not just given to them for nothing. They do need to earn it.
4. fails to address how hard most teachers do work and how they are not paid enough and no longer have the support of the principals and other administration.
5. fails to tell the truth that most of the time, the teachers are NOT the problem. The problem often lies with the poor administration, the government becoming involved in something they know little about, and poor parental involvement.
6. The movie fails to emphasize the FACT that parent involvement and constant communication between parent, teacher, and student is KEY. The movie only portrays minority parents who are all highly involved in their children's education. This is misleading. My husband is a NYC teacher for 15+ years and has always had minimal parental support.
*Finally, I feel that if teachers were given more control over the educational process and if more parents became inolved, that we actually could improve education in this country.
I thought it was excellent! My husband said it was painful. I'm not sure if it's because I read the first book (and saw the movie) and was in love with the characters already. I felt the 2 1/2 hours flew by, which I was concerned about at first going in. I loved the storyline, with the (young love) love triangles entangled in it and the good vs. evil theme which is much of life. LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! I'd see it again.
