My husband and I took our 8y/o son to see this movie. Our son is a huge fan of the books and had an advantage as to the story line over us, but we enjoyed the movie more than he did. It has some very funny parts (lol funny!!) and some very poignant thoughts on how truly awful middles school can be. Smaller children may not get the humor, but it is a good movie for kids 8 and up or those familiar with the books

Good movie for family. Little kids will like it and the story line is good enough to hold the attention of parents.
