This movie is dazzling as far as special effects and a tour de force of action and adventure. I really enjoyed the movie and wouldn't have missed it. However:
For dialog all he used was a computer to enter every hackneyed cliche about evil Americans against plucky natives. Very disappointed in the one dimensionality of the characters. All natives good, all humans, (except the hero, the token ethnic and the intellectuals of course) bad and greedy. 3 stars for this. This could have been a very great film, if he had bothered to make the characterization more nuanced.
Too bad the only movie cliche he missed was my favorite for dealing with recalcitrant aliens: "Let's nuke the planet from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." :-)
Yes, I recommend this movie.
