I was looking forward to this movie for a few months... but it didn't live up to my expectations. Foster was pretty good... Quaid was (surprisingly) ok, but the others... wow. really bad! the girl, the cook and the hunter...should be written right out of the story. she ruined the whole movie for me. There was some good action, however. The storyline was decent. Just so-so.
Not being a Matt Damon fan, I went in with minimal expectations.I was glad I did. He can do "campy". The dialogue was great... especially the "thoughts" that run through his head throughout the movie.I didn't expect that ending, either. A good time. Worth going.
The story was ridiculous. There were too many directorial blunders to count. Aaron Eckhart ...who told him he could act? If there was ONE more scene with J.A. wearing a scarf and playing the quirky cute girl.... and.... I have never seen so many unbelievable scenes in one movie. The only reason why I didn't leave the theater.... was because my friend and I laughed soooo hard at the absurdity and bad acting, that we couldn't have asked for more fun.
Kind of predictable, actually. I was hoping for a more exciting "underground find"... but it was ok. There were some good action scenes, definitely... but some corny little things that bugged me.
I admit that after the first 5 minutes... I almost ditched it and went into another movie. I am glad I didn't, actually. The pace was good and fast. It had the familiarity of an Arnold Schwarzeneger movie from the 80's. If you like those sci-fi action movies like Bladerunner and combine it with a modern-day Gladiator... you will enjoy it.
I am usually an Ang Lee fan... but not today. Corny. Overly "smiley" cast. Ridiculous and VERY unsexy nudity. I can't pinpoint exactly what it was I disliked the most.... The "happiness" and phoney hippie stuff? The dullness of the whole first 45 minutes? There wasn't much to like, actually. No wonder it was the opening week and only 10 people in the theater...
Same script... different people. that would have been ok, since all three preceeding movies did it too... but this was not up to par. There were some funny scenes.. no doubt...but certainly NOT worth the $14.50 I paid. The $3.00 3-D fee was not worth it . Except for a few flying metal pieces and some wooden stakes through the body, towards us, there was not much 3-D at all. I can't say it was no fun at all.... just not worth the money.
The screenplay in itself is a masterpiece. QT is unvelieveably talented to come up with this story and this dialogue. Fantastic casting. Suspenseful. Bloody.... but surprisingly funny. Not only QT's best (and that is BIG ... considering I never thought he could top Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs). I usually avoid Brad Pitt and the other Hollywood blow-hards... but he was FANTASTIC. I think he should stick to comic rolls. this will put all of these folks back on the map. Go Go Go Go. I wish I could see it again for the first time.
During the first 15 minutes it seemed a little "late 90's" with all of the interviews and fake footage... but...boy did it pick up the pace! i didn't see it coming. I was glued to my seat and enjoyed the ride. It was action packed, loaded with political inuendos in a not-in-your-face way, bittersweet, and emotion provoking. Leaving room for a sequel... I will be expecting only the best from Peter Jackson in a year or two. Don't see it with a narrow-minded ding dong. Go alone or with an intelligent companion. Enjoy!
