It's not corny, people... it's SUPPOSED TO be campy.... that's why its so funny. Its definitely a good time. I like these guys and I think people will want a sequel.
If you saw the first one in the 80's, and you have an imagination... you will enjoy it. It was done quite well. It is what it is... a Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie, and if you can't get past the unreal storyline.. don't waste your time.
good points: emotional, cute, I like the fact that the lead girl isn't "hollywood beautiful" and that made for a more believeable character.
not so good point: Wow... did they change the story from the book. What the heck?? The villian (Marcus) wasn't even a big part. And the whole dad/friend/fire thing??? I think if I didn't read the book I would have thought the movie had MANY holes in it to leave the viewer wondering what happened in many situations.
I was surprised that this was so violent... as I thought it was a comedy...based on the trailers. It was really good. We laughed alot. It was pretty disturbing in general... but that's cool too. I think it will do very well and get quite a bit of popularity. It's well done and completely different.
Definitely more violent and bloody than any horror movie. I've never seen so much slicing and throat slashing and stabbing. Nonetheless... I have to say it was a good time. Not an award winner... but it went above my expectations.
thankfully I didn't know the ending, as that surprise is the most memorable of the movie. It was a little predictable until that point, but always good. Great and loveable characters. A good drama about disfunctional families and real life. Dont let anybody ruin this for you by telling you what happens... and don't read spoilers.....
The storyline was actually more interesting than the bloody mayhem I had expected (but went to see anyway). Quite enjoyable, actually. There is a real story.... and likeable characters.
I did not read the book... so I am NOT comparing. The story about the relationship between father and son was MUCH more believeable and relatable than the girl-boy thing. Channing Tatum's acting was surprisingly decent.... but Amanda Seyfried was just not believable. I tried to like her...but I didn't find her "natural" in any way.
Hey... I can appreciate wanting "old Hollywood" when you are a fan of older movies... but love them or not.. they don't stand the test of time. Times change.. and storytelling styles change. To keep the attention of the modern-day people... you have GOT to keep up with the times! Gosh... that kind of storytelling seem soooo silly today. They should updated the style while they were updating the CGI. Nobody would be scared today watching the Lon Chaney version for the first time. Nobody will be scared watching this either.
Previews and trailers portray this as a scary movie. It isn't scary. But it is suspenseful and pretty darn good. The characters keeps you guessing who we should believe and the story turns several times during the movie. Well done and enjoyable. I don't know why they decided to keep the trailers this way... this movie is better than that. Unfortunately the mis-leading may backfire and disappoint people who expect horror. If you like the Sixth Sense and Momento you should go.
