For most, they see the character of Cameron Diaz as a cold and callosed mother, not seeing the heartache, not one, but all three of her very wise children are enduring. They have to undermine the whole parential structure and then lie because no matter what, the unwavering mother refuses to see that her eldest daughter, no matter what, is going to die. The way the children manage to "take care of each other" despite their mother's outwardly denial and their father's inwardly inability to convince the mother that the younger daughter has rights and opinions to her own body and should not do proceedures that are asked of her if she is not willing is immeasurable. In the end life takes a turn and healing occurs in the most unusual ways.
