This movie uses all of the tricks to scare you silly, including sudden sounds, sneaky ghosts, darkness, freaked out dog, etc. It also presents a great story of a woman whose son was mistreated by a couple and not buried properly. See it and give up a few nights of sleep.
Yes, this is another first-person camera movie, similar to Cloverfield and Blair Witch. It's about teens who discover an alien object in a cave, probably made after a meteor crashed, but none of that is revealed. In fact, the only things revealed in this movie are the things that can be captured by real cameras, such as those in security systems, those being operated by the characters in the scenes, and those being levitated by the super teen affected by the alien rock.
To no surprise, Katherine Heigl plays a half-witted bounty hunter out to get an old high school flame for the reward money. Yes, the plot is that ridiculous, but don't think about it. The flirting and the action in this movie roll well and you will be entertained in the end. I was pleasantly surprised that this movie actually satisfied me in the end.
I enjoyed every moment of this film! It's an action flick with some profound insights into the innate human survival instincts. The same instincts that may turn suicidal thoughts into an unnerving desire to survive. Liam Neeson plays a man whose job is is to guard oil pipelines and excavation sites from wild animals like wolves. He's an emotionally scared man who recently lost his wife to a serious illness. He's so distraught that he's even suicidal at the beginning of the movie. He boards a company plane hating life and not wanting any human contact. Then the plane crashes and his survival instincts kick into high gear. In fact, he even takes the lead to try and keep a group of men safe from hungry wolves. Suffice it to say, the wolves are on their home turf and the fight proves to be to the finish.
It's important to care about a character when you're watching a movie and I cared about this guy. He was set up by a bunch of crooked cops and a filthy rich guy who owns a lot of NY real estate. He manages to escape from the authorities at his father's funeral and stages a caper that includes stealing a $40,000,000 diamond that he was accused of stealing before, proving that the rich guy still has it. His friends and family are behind him and they have to go up against some angry crooked cops and the rich guy. What fun! And it plays really well, sort of like Mission Impossible with an story you can understand.
Most scenes are action-packed and entertaining to watch. The cast is young and some of the younger actors can hang with the likes of Terrence Howard, but that isn't important in the end.
It's difficult to tell you what this movie is about because I didn't understand half of it. The story is fragmented between the past and present more than it should be; the characters are intentionally vague about this past and actions because they are mercenaries. Lastly, I found it impossible to care about any of the characters in this movie. Perhaps, all of those elements made it so entertaining to watch and so easy to dislike while watching it. The end result, however, was positive. I had a blast watching Gina Carano kick butt. This movie is also jam-packed with great stars who play their role to a tee. All I can say is, see it but just don't try to understand it. It was fun to watch and try to keep up with. Frankly, I don't even think the director cared about telling you story.
This movie is the about dance as an interpretative medium that a truly gifted choreographer can bring to life. Pina Bausch was an amazing artist and some of her greatest works are highlighted in this amazing film. The opening sequence, for example, includes parts of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, which has been performed in many different ways, some more conventional than others. However, Pina's version is a true Meisterstuck (masterpiece)! The stage set is an empty stage of raked dirt. The dancers are wearing loose-fitting rags that are barely on and they perform a savage-looking ritual sacrifice. It's amazing! The other sequences include Cafe Muler, which incorporates the strengths of 3D better than any Hollywood blockbuster I've ever seen. There is no doubt in my mind that this movie will become required viewing for future dance and music students the world over. See it and be captivated and thoroughly entertained.
I never tire of watching Kate B kill wolves in latex, regardless of how old she is. This movie is full of action that's similar to the previous Underworld movies. You can expect there to be brutal, blood-filled, fight-sequences involving lycans, vamps, and humans. In this movie, Kate's character wakes up after 12 years of slumber to discover than Michael, her hybrid boyfriend is dead (or is he?) and that they have an offspring who is highly sought after by the lycans. If you are in the mood for this sort of thing, you'll enjoy this movie. I did.
The casting was spot-on in this film, including both up-and-coming stars like Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi, and Diego Luna, as well as veterans like Wahlberg, Beckinsale, and JK Simmons. Unfortunately, the script is light on story and dialogue and each scene gave me the impression that those actors were short-changed with their parts. I do recommend it because it's an action-packed caper film that satisfies as a whole. It is not, however, a well written movie with solid dialogue.
