This is a great movie about a bad cop who uses criminals and victims to get out of progressively more difficult situations. He is a junkie in the worst sense of the word, and yet we still want him to continue. The director does an amazing job of setting up scenes of extreme tension. It felt as if I were seeing a movie that was meticulously crafted for maximum punch-power. It worked on almost every level and I enjoyed my time at the movies. If you like cop movies, you'll be impressed with The Bad Lieutenant.
If the audience you happen to see this movie with contains young kids between the ages of 8-18, you will get annoyed by the audience interaction. They will scream frequently, yell out words of praise for the good looking actors, and even boo the average looking ones. All that aside, this is a better film than the first Twilight and a good expansion of the vampire/werewolf mythology. However, it's geared towards its target audience of females under 18, and you will have to suffer through the obvious marketing ploys for that group.
Imagine a world where $ex, drugs and rock n roll were frowned upon, not to mention long hair and you'll have the setting for this fun movie full of the best rock ever. The cast is a blast and you're sure to leave it with a smile on your face. Long live Rock!
I went to see this movie for the special effects, not the story. Suffice it to say that there's no need to develop a character when the end of days is upon us! So, see this movie for fun and not intellectual stimulation and you'll enjoy it. Popcorn is a must!
LSD, hippies, leftist politics, and leftist Hollywood propaganda abound in this movie about US government foul-ups, and the stupidity of human nature. Clooney's agenda is transparent and his acting, as usual, is pretty good. Ewan McGregor is a reporter in search of meaning, but nothing works well in this movie. You'll get what you paid for, which plays like a tired, one-sided argument that we hear is several Hollywood movies every year. Be warned, this movie is painful to sit through unless you have all the same gripes Clooney and company have.
This movie will reel you in at the beginning and raise your expectations before letting you down in a big way. The premise and proposition are interesting and the setup is well crafted, but then the story unravels and what's revealed lacks sufficient substance to satisfy. You will, however, be treated to pretty good acting, alien technology, and creepy mind control scenes reminiscent of 70s sci-fi films. See it only if you're in the mood to get a sci-fi fix, just don't expect much.
This movie is suffering from an identity crisis (and lack of focus) in that it can't decide whether to be a documentary or a Hollywood sci-fi movie. Set in Nome, Alaska, it's no wonder that there's so much "real" footage of psych patients going stir-crazy and homicidal. I can't recommend this movie because it was exhausting to watch split screens with the "real" footage on one side of the screen and the acted version on the other. I would've rather watched either one of the two movies, which would've allowed me to focus more on the facts presented and draw my own conclusion. As it stands, it's the product of a director who lacks decision making skills.
This movie is about "getting your Irish on" and drinking, killing bad guys, showing plenty of attitude, and sharing moments with other thugs. Judd Nelson and Clifton Collins act their parts well, the rest can't act. The actions sequences and shootouts are memorable, yet there are parts that lag and drag. In retrospect, this movie was fun to watch only because it turned out to deliver what I expected.
If you enjoy a good melody or fine portrait painting, this movie isn't for you. "Commercial art" is frowned upon in this movie about troubled artistic souls and the people who exploit them. Adam Goldberg is hilarious as a misunderstood atonal musician desperately seeking acceptance. This is definitely an artsy film that explores the meaning of art.
Jigsaw prepares exciting games for a guy who denied him health insurance and for two predatory lenders. Apparently, the writers of Saw will be tackling national issues from now on. I found this movie to be more of the same and boring at times. Do yourself a favor and skip it entirely unless you just can't get enough of this franchise.
