This is a sad-but-great movie about the lengths to which parents of severely disabled children will go to improve the lives of their little ones. Fraser and Keri play the parents of 2 children with a debilitating and terminal disease, called Pompe, which usually results in death before the age of 9. The performances here are solid and you will spend much of the movie in tears. But, it's a story worth telling (and seeing) about how love can even conquer Big Pharma!
Young love affair full of crime and anti-parent action. The cast is hilarious and on cue delivering potent laughs in this very funny film about young people discovering their personalities and their bodies.
The movie “The Road” is a more realistic film about the post-apocalyptic existence, but “The Book of Eli” is more entertaining to watch. You’ll be treated to some serious action and enjoy the performances from Washington and Kunis. Most importantly, you’ll get serious satisfaction when you see the ending.
Rip-roaring, fun to watch vampire film about the end of humanity and, in consequence, the end of vampires' food supply. Ethan Hawke gives a solid performance and Willem Dafoe is his usual edgy self. I found this to be one of the smartest vampire films in a long time.
Skip this uninspired movie about a woman who maps her life out with checklists and picks lovers because they're cardiologists and can get her into the condo complex she dreams of occupying. There's no chemistry between the leading actors, though each of their performances is solid if viewed separately. The story also lags and there are moments when you're wondering why you took the bait and purchased a seat for this film. Wait for cable.
This is a terrific movie about a small German town where killings and ritualized tortures begin to occur just before World War I breaks out. The characters are very well developed and a sense of intrigue builds throughout the film, which culminates in an ending that's unlike any I've seen. Those who like well written, well developed characters and a substantial storyline will appreciate this methodically told movie in German. If you're lucky enough to see this film in a theater with assigned seating, choose a seat that's in the center of the theater to make it easier to read subtitles for 2 1/2 hours.
Okay, so this isn't a terrible film. It has the usually intriguing Sherlock Holmes plot with trickery, gadgets, riddles, and, in this case, black magic. Downey does a good job of being a troubled soul with a beautiful mind, and the action is not bad! Unfortunately, Holmes is portrayed as a comic-book superhero with mixed martial arts skills.
Attention Hollywood: not all star-studded musicals will be great! "Nine" is painful to sit through and Daniel Day-Lewis is grossly miscast. There are some truly beautiful-looking scenes in this movie, but looks are NOT enough to bail out this uninspired piece of Euro-trash. You'll end up feeling sorry you spent the cash on this poorly executed film.
Jeff Bridges is pitch-perfect as the old washed-up, alcoholic country singer whose life is as sad as his songs. This is a terrific movie with Oscar-worthy performances by Bridges and Gyllenhaal. There isn't a predictable scene in the movie and I was mesmerized by the acting.
This is a fun movie to sit through! Alec Baldwin is hilarious and Meryl Streep hits another one out of the park. What you don't expect is to see so many others, for the most part unknown actors, be on cue for what turns out to be great all- around performances. One caveat, this movie is geared towards a middle-aged audience and those under 30 will probably miss some of the references and jokes. Nevertheless, it's very well executed..
