John C Riley's character is a divorced wreck of a man who can't get back into life 7 years after his ex-wife left him. Enter Marisa Tomei's character as a single mother emotionally enslaved to her 22-year old live-in son played by Jonah Hill. The two declare war on each other as they seek to keep Tomei's affection in what turns out to be a funny film.
Swinton plays a Russian woman who fell in love with a rich Italian once upon a time. Her current life is anything but a fairy tale. In fact, it's full of the dullness of family life and the responsibilities of a hugely successful Italian family business. Enter a young, creative Italian chef to sweep her off her feet and she suddenly springs back into life. Unfortunately, the usual dangers of an extramarital affair develop and tragedy ensues. She plays her character with passion and conviction and the ending is inspiring.
Jackie Chan is the only thing that kept me from walking out of this movie. There's nothing original about it and the young actors are irritating and lacked the talent to pull off their characters. Rent the original or wait for it to come on TV for the umpteenth time and you'll be glad you did.
Jennifer Lawrence nails this performance as the daughter of a killer who seemingly skips bail and leaves her to fend for her little brother and sister. This movie is set deep in the woods with highly suspicious characters that are in cahoots against her and appear to be into several crimes and capable of murder. John Hawkes delivers another powerful performance as the one man the people against her fear and respect.
It's a good think this movie isn't in 3D, or you'd spend most of it ducking rocks in your seat. No kidding, this is a movie about civil unrest and bloodshed in the name of religion, God, and pagan gods. Rachel Weisz is compelling as an agnostic philosopher/astronomer who becomes the object of men's desires.
"Ondine" is about an unlucky fisherman who finds a mysterious and beautiful woman in his fishing net one day. She brings him luck and love, especially to the life of his terminally ill daughter. But, all is not as it seems and reality begins to rear its ugly head when strangers show up to reveal who she is. Their love has become strong, however, and the fight between reality and fantasy occurs to produce a truly spectacular ending.
This is a truly exceptional movie about rock n' roll's underbelly and the industry employees who scratch the itch! Russell Brand emerges as a brilliant actor with great comedic timing. I laughed throughout, and still do when I think of some of the scenes. Not to be missed, especially by rock fans.
Surprisingly hilarious movie about an ex-military hero brought back into duty by the general who trained him a-la-Rambo. You'll laugh at most of the jokes in this action movie about a wimpy hero with mad skills for ripping throats and clinching celery in his buttocks. Don't take any of it seriously and you'll have a good time like I did.
This movie is essentially a prequel to all the other Robin Hood stories we've seen. It tells the story of Robin the crusader with King Richard Lionheart. It's filled with great medieval battle sequences and has a well-developed story. The story ends with Robin and his people taking to the forest when the King refuses to keep a promise. I was a little reluctant going in, but I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
This documentary is in the style of Michael Moore. Abramoff is certainly rich material and his crimes make for an entertaining film. This movie isn't for everyone, but the reporting of the events was well done and the movie packs a wallop.
