I enjoyed this movie because the story was rich and full of references to the struggle between art and communism, the loss of dignity, love, and also had truly sensational music. The structure of the story is simple: a once-famous Russian conductor who had a falling out with the Communist Party intercepts a fax from a famous theater in Paris and decides to stage a comeback by impersonating the Bolshoi Orchestra. However, this story has many layers and you will be entertained and surprised by the twists and turns.
After 40 years of isolation, an infamous recluse with a haunting past plans a funeral party for himself while he's still alive to come clean with the town that fears him. This movie is full of powerful scenes with amazing actors. The movie is touching and griping and I was genuinely entertained.
At the height of the Cold War, a Russian spy begins to feed a French Intelligence officer files possessed by the Russian government on the USA. The characters in this movie are very well developed and the tension runs high from start to fin. I found it interesting that this film was released in the US at the same time as Angelina Jolie's Salt because this movie is a truly classic spy drama that should not be missed. I did not enjoy Salt.
You will not believe how completely ludicrous Salt's story is. It's not only that the whole Russia vs. USA is overplayed, but this movie wants to resurrect the the cold war single-handedly. It flops in the end and only Jolie's beauty and the action scenes keep things entertaining. Popcorn is a must for this film if you talk yourself into it. Once in, you'll laugh at the fact that you're present for this half-witted movie that seems to get more preposterous with each scene.
This movie reminded me of films like Dark City and The Matrix . Thankfully, it's original enough in its own right to be highly entertaining and intriguing. I will need to see it again to try and understand some of the plot layers (dreams within dreams within dreams?). However, it was good enough for me to consider seeing it again a positive. You'll only be disappointed if go into it hoping for a typical light-on-story-heavy-on-explosions summer movie. You will have to think constantly and stay in y our seat to keep up with the story. Skip the soda for this one!
There's nothing new to see here. Just more of the aliens who like to have mano-a-manos with human mercenaries. This time, the setting is their planet and they're importing the best of the worst killers from other planets to theirs to hunt them down. It's an interesting twist, but most of the scenes are ripped off from the first one, including the one where the lead actor rubs mud all over himself to avoid being detected by the heat-sensitive camera. Just skip this movie entirely--you'll be sorry if you don't.
This movie continues the relationship between the troubled young girl and the investigative reporter from "The Girl With The Red Dragon Tattoo." This time around the girl is wanted for murder and her friend the reporter is out to prove her innocence. I enjoyed this movie almost as much as "The Girl with the Red Dragon Tattoo." The story really moves and the action is intense.
As usual, they spared no expense to make Cruise and Diaz look good delivering their roles. This movie is, for the most part, entertaining. Unfortunately, you have to worship Cruise to see past the fact that this film is merely a vehicle for him to enjoy it.
Restrepo delivers the realities of being an American Soldier in the most hostile region in Afghanistan, known as Koringal Valley. Scenes include soldiers breaking down emotionally under severe stress as well as bonding to stay alive and conquer their demons. Unfortunately, this doesn't make for great popcorn cinema. It is well done and gives it to you straight up--for a change! I enjoyed it, but understand going into it that it's educational and inspiring more than it is entertaining.
This movie is a cross between Ghost Rider and Pale Rider, but not nearly as good as either. And I thought it would be good to see Brolin and Malkovich square off in a western! I was dead wrong! This movie features ridiculous and preposterous gadgets like a horse-mounted Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon and pistol arrow shooters that can lift men into the air and thrust them back tens of feet! Okay, not the end of the world yet, you say? Well, it also features demons from the underworld, and a hot Megan Fox in a role that truly highlights that empty head we've been hearing about. Skip this movie at all cost!
