If you want to see a good movie and leave feeling happy about the holidays or your life, don't see this film.
Cronenburg's choice of directing each scene succeeds in keeping the audience in a state of disturbing anxiety, (i.e. from demented closeups of Keira's twisted face and inability to speak clearly, to the neglected wife of Carl, or the icy coolness of Jung's connection to human life). This is not the emotional ride I enjoy. I don't need to become a patient to watch a movie which is what Cronenburg invites.
I would have enjoyed seeing a film about the science of the theories. But that is not what this is, this is a platform for Cronenburg's twisted sense of entertainment.
slow start, good parts, something missing in the storyline -- almost like there's another hour of the movie somewhere and they cut it out in bits and pieces. Felt like I was watching 2 different movies -- Rourke (great) was in an R film and Lutz (great) was in a PG version. Maybe the makers just don't know what they're doing. All the pieces are there but not put together correctly.
All around very well done, excellent cast. If you like Westerns that aren't silly, you'll like this take me back to a time long ago. Not much depth but it's a film about a book so there you go. Laughed... it's like Shakespear gone Western... clever dialog;)
I had heard this film was okay so I had low expectations but i was pleasantly surprised. the writing was excellent, the acting, excellent.
Downey and Law are both so incredibly talented and work perfectly in this duo. I am a fan of both and they dd not let me down in performance or charisma.
"Dances with Wolves" meets "Matrix" so the storyline didn't work for me as "original" at all.
The visuals are spectacular and a must-see.
The Villian (corporations) was not interesting at all. The Army/General element lost its focus and his performance was poorly directed, he became "crazy," "over the top," "cartoonish."
The film caused me to dislike our US Forces.
If the story's villian had been more creative and the story less black and white, more about these amazing Indigenous people, it would have worked on a more mature level.
Meryl and Baldwin kept me rocking in my seat laughing. Loved It. Loved it. 35+ this movie is a best choice.
I enjoyed Baldwin's character on many levels. Masculine yet gentle. No one could have pulled off that character except Baldwin, he is the only one "manly" enough to make exposing his feelings work on so many levels - sincerity, humor, vulnerable, etc.
Meryl was supurb. Feminine lovliness. Brings "sexy" and "desireable" back to 45+. Thank you!
Wardrobe deserves an award. Gave Meryl great style.
I cried several times; my date cried several times. Sandra's got another heartfelt hit on her hands.
Perfect family film. Loved it. Makes you laugh, root for the underdog, high-5 the wins... just TERRIFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --- unlike Christmas Carol which I felt was too dark -- this film, "The Blind Side," is just what I hoped would be available at the theaters... our country needs these kinds of films right now.. thank you.
Johnny Depp is why I went and I was not disappointed. The love story was hot. Depp is Dillinger. Technically, the film is perfectly done, Mann's talent is everywhere. The task to take a true story from an era kids can't relate to and give it enough bite for today's BRB audiences... hard to do even for Mann.
