I had heard this was Eddie Murphy's best movie since Beverly Hills Cop. Not true. His character didn't fit him playing the role. Most of the movie seemed miss cast. But there were parts that had me in stitches laughing. Too many loose strings and answered"How'd they do that's?" I still would recommend it but go expecting silliness not realism.
As long as you aren't expecting a ton of laughs or action this quirky darkly humored movie is very well acted and written. It has it's slow spots and a couple surprises too. Being a fan of indie type films such as Lars and The Real Girl, The Station Agent etc the movie was right up my alley.
People in the theater actually all clapped at the end of this movie they loved it so much. I'd say the only thing I wish had been written differently is the oh so overplayed scenes where the evil bad guy just keeps on going like some energizer bunny when all around him are killed, he ends up being so hard to kill. This villian scenario has been done so much in so many movies it's very predictable. But the graphics, effects and acting were all wonderful. I do wish Sigourney Weaver's role had been a bit more developed, she is a wonderful actress whose talents weren't properly utilized in this film. I do highly recommend this film!
