There's no denying that the special effect are great. That's basically what the movie is about. If you're looking for a plot that isn't cheesy or something deeper than a straight-up action film, you're best served by something else.
However, if you like seeing giant robots fight (and who doesn't?), you'll enjoy this movie for all its 2.5 hours worth.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
