I first went to see this movie last night at the midnight showing. I left feeling very disappointed, almost angry, that I had waited this long and got a movie that had very little to do with the book. I did not want to not like this movie. But, I still had tickets for an afternoon showing today. I dreaded sitting there for another two and a half hours watching a movie I didn't like. I had to find another approach and decided that this time, I would not watch the movie and think about the book. I'll be damned if it didn't work! I had spent so much time last night focusing on what the movie DID NOT have that I never allowed myself to enjoy what it DID have. When I stopped doing that, suddenly the movie wasn't so bad.
Took my kids to see this movie last night. Overall it was a decent movie, not nearly as good as the first Transformers movie and definitely not as good as Star Trek and certainly not in the same league as the Dark Night as some may suggest, but better than the Terminator. The CGI was perfection but the story line was lacking as was the acting itself. Also, be prepared to cover young children's eyes during a couple of scenes.
Me and my two sons have now seen this movie 6 times! The last two times were in IMAX. I would suggest to anyone who is a Star Trek fan to see this movie in IMAX before they take it out. The movie itself does a great job of being able to be approachable to those who know nothing about Star Trek while staying somewhat true to the fans. There were just a few plot issues I had and 1 character I thought wasn't represented very well, but other than that, excellent movie.
