Julia - well, how could she be anything but terrific? The scenery and some of the characters were quite fun and interesting. So, I guess like others here I'm disappointed in the actual storyline. I have not read the book, but I shall to see if it fleshes it out a bit for me as I feel the screenplay must not have done it justice.
Italy was easily the most fun part of her journey, after that...eh.
Liz is a confused, somehow disoriented woman finding herself. I didn't get the feeling she ever accomplished that goal. There were sparks of it but nothing that connected as "ah, she's gotten it now". She spends most of her time trying not to fall into another relationship and ultimately ends up doing just that several times after her marriage ends. It's like she's not searching for herself, but to somehow lose the part of herself that falls too easily. I was quite disappointed with the ending, which I won't give away. But I will say - I thought it might have made a better point about her journey had it ended differently. It seemed like a sell out to me.
I also didn't feel even a tiny spark between Liz and the character played by Javier Bardem. Not even a little. I guess it made for a pleasant 2 hrs but I won't buy it on DVD, which is a first for me on a JR film.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Outstanding, start to finish

I was so entranced from start to finish I didn't even take a sip of water for the whole 2 hrs and 40 min. The 3D is so outstandingly realistic that my fear of heights kept kicking in and I had to take off the glasses to stop the adrenaline for a moment. The storyline was so well balanced. Not so much violence that I was turned off, and not so much romance that I felt sappy at any point. I don't think I'd take a child under the age of about 12 to this movie as there are some scary parts. This is a movie that is a must see in the theater as it absolutely will not be as good at home without the 3D.
While we waited, and waited for this movie, our expectations were high. We were disappointed. Scenes were added that were not in the book. ( As if there wasn't enough to do, they added something? ) Plot points important to the storyline in the future were ignored. It felt clumsy, didn't flow and I was horrified by the ( spoiler alert!!! ) burrow burning. They did a battle scene there instead of at Hogwarts? Odd. Left me worried about movies 7 and 8... and less anxious to see them lest they disappoint as much or more. I hope they are going to pull it all together but my confidence wanes.
This was a fun movie, but I agree with others that at least at the Saco Cinemagic, they need to turn down the volume in Imax a few decibles. Kids ears are not meant to process noise that loud!! Hubby laughed most of the way through as he's a big fan of sight gags. I'm more about plot. I enjoyed the concept of people out of time working together on a common goal. I thought Amy Adams and Ben Stiller were terrific. Hank Azaria's character would have been far better without the lisp, but I understand the need to lighten even the bad guys in a family film. I wanted more of Robin Williams. All in all, it was a good time, but if you are deciding between a regular screen and Imax and you have kids, I'd go regular for their ears sake!
