I loved the original. Some didn't, but those that did know the magic. One can follow the movie without having viewed the original Tron; which is good. The story is touching and interconnected. The visuals are spectacular.
I had the luxury of seeing the original movie in the theater. I made sure to see this one in IMAX and I want to see it again.
No spoilers: See it... Enjoy!

I hate sequels as a rule but this is an exception. This is worthy edition to the Terminator franchise. In short it was action packed and fun to watch. Something I will also own on DVD.
