Although it touched on the serious topic of the loss of a lifelong mate, it was handled sweetly and lovingly. I do not find it inappropriate for young children in any way; as a matter of fact, it is easier to learn about such real life issues in fiction than in reality for the first time. I loved the senior citizen in the starring role and the way he was portrayed as slowing but still very capable. He soon won the love and respect of the youngster and the two of them found much fun and adventure together. I smiled throughout the entire movie ...and laughed out loud quite a bit too!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
