This is a film that was made for the IMAX 3D experience. I've seen it twice. Once in 2D and it was great, and once with the IMAX 3D experience and it was wonderful. It's a film that delivers exactly what it promotes: Monsters and Robots. It's a wonderful homage to all the kids from the 60s to 80s who got bits and pieces of robot anime and shows and the ones who loved Godzilla's monsters. Make no mistake, Godzilla is the king of the Kaiju and most of us going to this film knew that. Kaiju was not a foreign word to us, but it is a word we want to share with others to experience the fun, fantasy and imagination come to life of it all. Del Toro delivers. The production design, the art design are fantastic. The story was nice, the monsters were menacing and very reminiscent of what I expect to come out of the sea. It's a fun, film. I had tons of these films as a child and then nothing for 40 years. I'm glad its back, I'm glad it was in the hands of someone who knew how to present it without under or over presenting it. It's great to show my kids of what they can look forward to as well, and introduce this to a new, more sophisticated audience. No big named lead actors made the film even better and more nostalgic, because we really knew who the stars were in those films back then: The monsters. The Robots. The actors did a fantastic job, not one of them fouled up given the material they were handed. They played it to the hilt and added to the fun and excitement. I wish we got to see more of those International Jaegers stationed to take care of the Pacific Rim monsters, and get more into the stories of the International pilots. It was mostly narrative. This would have added to it. Bring on more.
Pros well paced, great actors, good story, excellent fx, excellent action
Cons not enough kaiju!, not enough international jaegers!
I saw this movie in IMAX and any movie in IMAX is a grand experience. I have no idea what some reviewers are talking about when they say the movie was too loud, it was fine. But that wasn't the problem. The movie was so-so, with the robots being the main attraction. If the humans weren't in the film, I wouldn't have missed them, in other words, PIXAR might be a BIG consideration for Transformers 3. And parents take the PG-13 in consideration. I sat infront of two 7 year old boys who loved repeating all the curse words in the film while their father did nothing.
Ya know, this is a wonderful movie, perfect addition to Disney's Legacy and Pixar's vision into the future. But let me warn parents: there is a lot of human drama going on so if you have inquizitive and sensitive children, see the movie FIRST before taking your children; and then be prepared to talk to them afterwards before they get on the Internet and ask others and get the wrong information.
