Even after having read the book and having remembered many of the key points, I still found this to be an edge-of-the-seat, gripping-the-armrest thriller. The acting was uniformly top notch and the direction was outstanding. The music was not intrusive, but served as an excellent accompaniment to the story. While, regrettably, parts of the original novel had to be discarded in the interest of time, I recommend this movie highly.
