Beautiful and engaging

Other than an early sound issue, I have no complaints. PE was beautiful. The period detail is gorgeous. I was thoroughly taken in by Depp's Dillinger, & Bale gave a committed & nuanced performance. Ms Cotillard is wonderful. I felt compelled to root for both sides; both Dillinger & Purvis had flaws. The jittery camera work added to the immediacy of the action sequences & the lingering establishing shots infused details with importance & emotion. Mann has a reverence for the period. Detractors have said that the movie is boring. I don't understand that. Maybe it's viewers expecting Transformers-style mindless action. I'm not disparaging Transformers (I enjoyed it), but PE is not in the same league at all and I'm very grateful for that.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
