Went in knowing this hadn't been anyone's favorite movie, and found myself having a great time. This movie pokes fun at Las Vegas shows and the larger-than-life characters that star in them, and how it all falls apart. Filled with great people, this movie takes great comedians, and plays them off each other as characters - not clowns. There are definitely some cringe-worthy moments, and sure, it could be better. But all these great people signed onto this script for a reason, and I'm sorry that the humor was lost on those looking for a slapstick farce, who found themselves in a more subtle satire of the people whose names appear in lights on the Vegas strip. Go enjoy an imperfect story about imperfect people, who look perfect on stage.
Completely well done - stars some young ones, but not for kids. Better than most movies - horror or not.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Bloody Brilliant Fun

On a whim I just saw a preview showing in New Haven at Criterion, and this is a really fun way to lose yourself for 90 minutes. This is not a spoof - it's a very campy, funny, and bloody vampire story. It's ridiculous, and is one of the most fun rides I've had this year! If a great soundtrack and amusing script weren't enough, just throw in Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Malcolm McDowell (anyone remember A Clockwork Orange?) and Henry Rollins. Sometimes combos like these are wasted - but this is truly a very fun film. Note: the vampire violence is quite visible, but not a shock-fest (except when it is relevant to the plot) -- no wasted film time here.
