I have seen the movie twice now and I enjoyed it both times. Some people I know feel the movie is lacking due to the fact that it "changes the original story line". In reality it does not, it is just based on the original story line. The casting is excellent. There is a lot of humor, there are sever lines throughout the movie that are very quick and very snarky. Overall the photography and the cg blended well and look amazing. I think the movie is good for any fan of the series or anyone that just likes scifi movies. There is plenty of comedy and action. You do not need to be a huge Star Trek fanboy to enjoy this film. If you get the chance to see it in IMAX I would highly encourage you to. It was completely worth the extra couple bucks.
