This is a beautiful movie, but I am not sure that it will be a WOW! with younger children. there are some pursuit scenes that are pretty intense that may be too strong for the very young. To be sure the kid, the dogs and the mythical bird provide enough antics to keep most kids amused, but it is really for and about adults. It is a tale about loss, regrets and starting over.....a beautiful story, but a little over the head of the average 5 year old. Go by yourself and enjoy the beauty of this allegorical tale....not as a kids movie....but more like the fairy tales of old.....the very best ones.
I watched Star Trek as a child. I stood for three hours to get into the first Star Trek movie. I have watched every episode of TNG.....God help me....I have even been to a Star Trek convention or two......and I loved this movie. Familiar enough to bring a sentimental grin and at the same time new and fresh. LOVE the new versions of the original characters. Love the fact that they can go off in a completely different direction from the original series. The original franchise had gotten a bit long in the tooth...and even TNG movies have had their day (never have watched Nemisis....too depressing) but I would enjoy watching this series develop.
