This is not Star Trek. It's a Western / Mission Impossible in space. The essence of Star Trek is science fiction concepts. "New Life, New Civilizations" esoteric phenomena or philosophical ideas from science and technology. Those ideas are the fulcrum of any Star Trek. Personal conflict or explosions (literal and metaphorical) happen but are a result of the situation surrounding the sci-fi idea. The science here is peripheral, blatantly wrong, and intellectually insulting. For example the notion of a supernova being able to destroy the galaxy (did they mean to say solar system?) That aside, it’s an OK movie after you're past the unsituated ultra explosion chaos intro and the flying ninja roundhouse kicks of Mr. Sulu .
