Not as good as the book

People always say to never expect a movie to be as good as a book, and I walked into the theater with that expectation. However, the removal of some critical plot elements really ruined this movie. Many important parts of the novel that allow you to actually understand the characters and why they act the way they do were removed, making it impossible to understand some parts without having read the book. The book is great, the movie - not so much.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
