While Met Productions are always wonderful with great singing and production values, this transmission was disappointing. The sound system was set too high making the opening notes of the overture painful. The lighting fluctuated so at times singers were in the dark. There was no standard intermission break between acts so when I came back from the rest room I found I had missed the opening of the 2nd act. There also were no informative between act interviews that I so appreciate in Met broadcasts.
The music and singing met the high standards I expect from the Met. The only negative was the visuals. The performance was not always shot from the best perspective.
This is a comic opera w/ lots of 'stage business' occuring. They kept jumping into close-ups of one singer while the others were doing comic things in the back ground. This did not permit me to enjoy the full staging of the production.
