Surrogates combines the intensity of an action thriller, with the social relevance of a well-thought-out drama, and the perfect comedic timing of a biting satire. At once entertaining and significant, similar to the scifi films like "District 9" and "I, Robot." You feel like you have gone through a valuable cinematic journey that you will never forget.
The cast of actors had great chemistry on screen and made for a fun film. The twists and turns in the story are at times a little unrealistic, but are at least meaningful--which is more than I can say for most Hollywood thrillers. The first half of the film cheats the audience a little bit more than it should have, but at least the second half of the film is surprisingly fun and engaging compared to the first half of the film. Worth watching, especially on a date with someone with a good sense of humor. Good entertainment.
The theatrical cut was a very intense ordeal for a normal audience member to experience in the theatre, similar to the theatrical cuts of Lord of the Rings. Both Watchmen and Lord of the Rings need breathing room to help the audience engage fully with the film. The d.c. is extremely funny, fully rounded, paced perfectly, and is one of the most powerful film experiences you can find.
Bottom line: “Watchmen Director's Cut” is much more satisfying to watch than its theatrical cut counterpart. If you are sitting on the fence about Watchmen, or if you were underwhelmed by the theatrical cut of Watchmen, then do yourself a big favor and watch the Director's Cut and have your reservations dissolve before your eyes.
