A good movie with a bizarrely modern ending. An interesting take on an oft-heard tale.
The 3D tech is absolutely there. The only downside is I wear glasses and the 3D visor pushes them into my nose. Perhaps have a different, deeper set of 3D visors for people who wear glasses.
If you have thirteen year old girls this is a must. They'll love it and there's enough for you that you'll enjoy it.
One last thing; the price. It cost thirty bucks for the two of us. My understanding is that theaters break even on the flick; they make their money on popcorn and drinks. Because of the cost we didn't even buy a water. Theaters, make sure you negotiate with the studios to leave enough money on the table for your survivability...
So, if you've seen Dances with Wolves, you've seen this movie (and Kevin did a better job telling the story). That said...
This is the most spectacular-looking movie I've ever seen. Saw the 3D IMAX version and it is amazing. 3D has been perfected. It wasn't used like color was in Technicolor (oh, look! That's REALLY purple!) but like color in modern movies. It's just there and makes the experience better. Although the scenes where they were running around on tree trunks with the valley thousands of feet below were so vertigo-inducing that I had to close my eyes at times.
See this movie in 3D. It really demonstrates how movies will look from now on. A good future...
This may be the dumbest movie ever. You have to suspend belief to a "Lord of the Rings" level as it's entirely preposterous.
But... It's definitely a thrill ride.It starts strong and is pretty nonstop action for the first 2/3 of the movie. Lots of great effects and, as a Giants fan, thoroughly enjoyed watching Los Angeles disintegrate.
But it just keeps getting stupider and stupider as time goes on. If you've ever seen a movie before, any movie, the cliches are telegraphed and numerous.
So, if you're going to spend ten bucks on this thing, leave your brain at the door. You won't need it...
I was sort of dragged to this as I haven't actually made it all the way through any of the LOTR stuff. I always fell asleep. So it was a very pleasant surprise to see this allegory about how we treat our fellow man was interesting, unpredictable and, surprisingly enough for a flick so dependent upon CGI, very well-acted. Yes, there's gore, but it was surprisingly non-sickening and important to the plot, I believe I will actually return to see it again. And this is from a guy who largly watches movies at home on the blu-ray.
Five stars. Definitely go see this one, even if you're an old guy like me...
This is the best of all of the Star Trek flicks so far. Clearly made by people who love the original series, it works on so many different levels. I'd like to see them take on a few of the old episodes, not as remakes but perhaps as prequels or paralell stories. A new generation has taken the plate and hit a grand slam.
